Planet Bubble

Learning in a bubble has been a challenge for all of us. Here in Team 4 we've had to get really creative, thinking about ways we can stay engaged, keep learning, be active and have a ton of fun along the way.

Come and check out our entry for the Manaiakalani Festival in which we find a way to return our lives to normal. HOW?! you might ask... you're going to have to watch, wait, and see!

A massive thank you to Leonidas, and Mrs Lagitupu for their incredible hard work, and to all the beautiful smiling faces in our meets, we couldn't have done it without you

Around the World in 5 Days

This week the classes in Team 4 took a journey around the globe looking at some of the wonders of the world! On Monday we travelled to Egypt to learn about the Great Pyramid of Giza. We couldn't believe just how massive these pyramids were, and how big the stones were they used to make them.

Here is some of Emeline's research on the Pyramids

Tuesday saw us visit the Great Wall of China, and marvel and how long it was, and just how much work it would have taken to complete! What a mission, but what a wonder! Here is some excellent research done by Lynch.

The Statue of Liberty was our next stop, in the wonderful New York City - we talked about friendship, and the giving of gifts (The Statue of Liberty was a gift from the people of France, to the people of the USA representing their bond) and what freedom meant.

Check out Naomi's awesome drawing of the Statue of Liberty!

Our final case study was on a natural wonder - the Amazon Rainforest! This was definitely my favourite of the places we have visited because, just like the rainforest, I too am from South America! Here is some of Kolotita's work on the Amazon Rainforest!

Make sure you visit their blogs, and leave some positive comments! They've been working so hard, and learning so much!

An Exciting Week Back

Ooooooh it feels good to be back!

School just isn't the same without students! We've missed seeing each other, and boy, have we had some exciting things going on this week!

On Tuesday we got to strap on some gloves, and learn some really cool boxing techniques from our instructor Pax - we've all agreed to never use these skills on each other though, it's just a great way to stay fit (and let out a little energy before class!). I think I might have caught Paulah by surprise though!

Wednesday saw Mr Hughes, and about 50 Year 5,6,7 & 8 Pt England students go on a little adventure down to Dunkirk Reserve - the reason? We had a softball tournament to take part in! It was a super fun day, and even though we weren't keeping scores, we had a ton of fun! We got some sun, got soaked by some sprinklers and smashed a couple of home runs! I'd call that a successful outing for us!

Thursday took us by surprise! We were being paid a visit by someone very special. In fact she is the only one of her kind in New Zealand! That's right... our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern came by to say hello thanks to some very well written letters by Room 21, and Mrs Moala. Make sure you stop by their blog to see what they've been up to and leave some positive comments!

Here's an interview, with the PM herself, conducted by Room 4's wonderful Aye Myat, and Nadia. How cool are they! Takes some serious skill to do that, especially in front of the audience they had!

Friday snuck up on us super quick, but it meant one thing, and one thing only! Pt England was headed to the beach! It was time for us to gather up our bags, our lunches, and our whanau to make the long (200m) walk down to the beach for a day filled with swimming, sports, and lots of adults standing in line for something called "coffee"!

I'll make sure to share highlights from that in our next post!

Make sure you're not a stranger! If you took the time to read this, spare a couple more seconds and leave us some positive comments. We love hearing from you guys!!

Saturday 20 February 2021

Well that's one way to kick things off!

Lockdown... Level Three.

What a way to start the year! But in typical fashion the students of Room 8, and Pt England at just rolling with it, and we are so thankful for their resilience and their ability to adapt to whatever this world throws at them.

We've linked up with our brothers and sisters in Room 6 & 7 for our Online Learning journey; and we're clearly having way too much fun in our meets!

At Pt England our theme for the year is Tiaki Taonga, translated this means Cherish our Treasures, so we started with the obvious. GOLD! We then moved on to Diamonds, and then something we can find in our own backyard, Pounamu or Greenstone.

Here are some examples of Lynch and Emeline's work!

I can't wait to be back in class - feels like we've barely had any time in there at all!
